I know the temptation of the complex carbohydrates of potato salad is hard to resist and everyone's mom and aunt's make the best. But as much as this will hurt, only stick to one portion of it today. Don't make this hard on yourself by getting a teeny portion of it however. Be generous with your one and only one portion of the day!
While the myth is that complex carbohydrates are bad and fattening, they are only damaging to your waistline when added with high calorie options. So, you know, basically everything else you might be ingesting for the remainder of the day. Complex carbs are also dangerous because they take longer to break down and use in your body in ways such as fiber or energy. I'm now wondering, can you make sweet potato potato salad? Siri? Pinterest? As much as beans are a wonderful source of vitamin D and fiber, the only thing they are on this lovely day is calories and sodium. And loads of both. It's quite hard to get around this Memorial Day staple, but you could try introducing chickpeas in the form of hummus. Hummus is a fantastic source of protein and fiber along with many other things. Surprise your friends and family by volunteering to make this dish instead of baked beans. Smothered in sauce. From a can.
If you have any great and healthy Memorial Day traditions, then you should totally leave a comment to share them! I'd love to try/hear about them! Be sure to also keep in mind the special significance of today.
XOXO, Courtney!

But not really. However, I will not be posting today. So be lazy while wearing your favorite comfy yoga pants. Let's postpone the cookie feast celebration though. I suggest fruit instead! P.S: I am going to start featuring female blogs that I feel align with some of the themes of this blog or ones that I just genuinely enjoy reading! Keep your eyes peeled to the very bottom of the home page. When there is a new blog for y'all to check out, read, and maybe subscribe to and follow, I will update the text to orange. And purple when not updated.
If you haven't noticed yet, I sort of gear this blog to not only healthy eating and life choices, but to indulging yourself as well! That's the beauty of this space!
But one other thing I should make clear is that I am a huge champion of the "Yoga Pants All Day Everyday" campaign. Of course, this also goes for leggings. Treat yourself!
National Treat Yo' Self day is technically October 13. It's also made up. But, I believe we should honor Donna and Tom's master idea.
Instead of shelving out mucho dinero for "velvet slippies" or a "crystal beetle" broach, let's direct this ingenious concept to HealthLikeMe. Part of being a realistic lover of health is knowing you can eat what you want. Not cheat days. But, a nice and proportional cheat meal. Don't limit yourself so you're miserable. Some easy and realistic ways I accomplish that are not meal prepping (really?!), but planning what I want to eat for every day of the work week. For example, Monday I'll bring lunch from home and have a super high-in protein for dinner on my commute home, Tuesday - one slice of pizza, Wednesday - a salad, Thursday... you get the picture! Also, it might help to always pay for your weekday meals in cash and don't take your debit/credit card. Keeps you within a limit! Super pants to the everyday rescue!
Yoga pants: they're not just your comfy lounge Hulu-binging pants.
They're your favorite traveling or brunching pants! Leggings: they're not just your "I'm bloated and I don't want anyone to notice pants. They're your go-to pants that make your ass look good! If you don't have a pair of leggings for AT LEAST each day of the week - with a few pair of yoga pants scattered here and there - you're tacky and I hate you. In the end, what can we gain from these two seemingly contradictory ideals?
Wear and do what makes you feel the most you. Do you feel powerful? Comfortable? Fearless? Alluring? If yoga pants or leggings don't have you feeling as if you can take on the world, that's alright! Find what does - whether it's taking a a new workout class, cooking class, making a meal out of queso, going to brunch with your friends, shopping or even just starting a blog - and treat yo self to them! Indulge the right way!
If you think being motivated to stay in shape is hard, these fun posts and sayings are for you1/31/2019 It's the ever-present, sometimes frightening phrase that spans generations: "I'll make it to the gym tomorrow."
