While in North Texas though, visit the three spots in Las Colinas, Addison, or Plano. However, there's also Hiatus Spa + Retreat in Plano and Yin's Acupuncture & Herbs Clinic in Frisco! All have phenomenal reviews and success rates! While acupuncture still mostly flies under the radar for Western medicine, its rewards can't be ignored. Most studios offer a discounted first session, or even take HSA/FSA payment.

So, it's about time we learn how to tap into that. What d'ya say? Fitness in FlexibilityStretching promotes flexibility. And when we do our little dinosaur stretch routine once we wake up, we are inadvertently doing a morning fitness routine. Being flexible is an important part of protecting our bodies during physical movement — whether high impact or low impact — from any potential injuries. It's weird that something we think of as simple as stretching does so much for us health wise. But how do we do it properly so we take full advantage of it?
The Health BenefitsStretching provides many advantages to our health. Benefits such as increasing blood flow, alleviating tension that reduces stress, improving posture, protecting mobility, keeping muscles healthy, and quieting and relaxing the mind. Timing is EverythingAre while gyms and yoga studios are open, stretching is free when done at home! Like previously stated, morning stretching is second nature but very important to increase our blood flow. Do an afternoon stretch break to alleviate the bad posture we exhibit when immersed in work. And stretching before you go to bed loosens up your muscles and helps prevent you from waking up in any sort of pain or soreness. ![]() Photo by Lyyfe Williams on Unsplash When I was a little girl, my mom used to convince me that stretching me would make me grow faster and taller. So while my 4'10" frame proves stretching doesn't solve everything, we can attests to its countless other powers. Take some time morning, noon, and night to stretch out your body for a simple, yet effective fitness routine!
We learned everything from how to stock pile our closets with paper towels, toilet paper, water, and hand sanitizer, to how to make bread, to how to tell clueless people to back up with merely a look. But mostly, we learned a thing or two about ourselves. For me, I learned six things.
Those who ask what the theme is always end up with a confused look on their face. Bohemian Minimalist. Yes, it is a thing. Pinterest has boards galore of this ever-clean looking aesthetic. During quarantine last year and into this year, this free-spirited wanderer got to truly express herself. And, feeling a sense of accomplishment as I took my time selecting the perfect decor while using my own money brought countless smiles to my face during a very uncertain time. I can't wait to finish it all up! 3. I neglected Health Like Me. But came back with a lot more ideas to write about! Health Like Me means so much to me. Not only because I love to write, and not only because doing this blog helps my own health journey, but because I get to see y'all benefit from and put into effect your own health choices based on some of Health Like Me's posts! I am always looking for a creative outlet. And when I pushed this blog to the side for about four months, it definitely manifested itself via my mental health. But it has returned with what I hope will be more fun content about easy ways to live a healthier life. The site's Pinterest page is ramping up, and hopefully an Instagram page will be coming soon! So keep your eyes open! Because now everyone HAD to do it. I embraced the loner part of me with no shame! And since being stuck at home was easy for me, I was able to stay healthy during the pandemic and keep those around me healthy, too. 5. My Chris Evans obsession reached an all-time high. It was pretty healthy before, but with countless nights within the safety of my apartment on Pinterest looking at amazing pictures of him, reading magazine features, re-watching interview videos of him, and amassing a pretty sizable collection of movies he's in. I mean, can you blame me? The man himself is humble, hilarious, smart, out-spoken, tatted, and loves dogs! He's also from Boston. My favorite city on this side of the Atlantic.
Comment below with one or two things you learned about yourself over the course of this pandemic and quarantine. We can't let such a difficult time hinder true introspection. Let's learn and grow!
Nothing beats laughter. They even say it's the best medicine! Not only does laughing have extraordinary effects on our facial and abdominal muscles, enjoying a good, hearty laugh also does wonders for our mental health! So, with us not being able to laugh with our usual friends due to social distancing, concessions had to be made. Enter Leslie Jones. The comedienne and SNL alum has had me doubled over laughing way too many times to count. From being Weekend Update's resident relationship expert on the late-night sketch show, to her live Tweeting on things like The Olympics and movies.
Just a Few of My Faves...Want to laugh along and heal your soul with me? Below are some of my go-to favorites I watch to keep my soul happy when I feel myself getting down. Check 'em out!
Isn't she such a great spirit animal?! Healing spirits while wanting to be just like her. Never afraid to be openly thirsty (like so many of us). Confident. Entertaining. Leslie Jones.
If you want even more options of her spirit, just search Leslie Jones on YouTube, Buzzfeed, or Pinterest! You're welcome! One thing we can all conclude about the aforementioned contributions is that the ancient Greeks were a passionate civilization/people. They also lived very meaningful lives! That is evident by observing the ruins all throughout Eastern Europe and Asia and the time commitment that they put towards exploring human reason. Which means, if you ever come across a piece of literature that voices the notion that the Greek philosophy of Stoicism is the practice of extinguishing all emotions, ditch it! This lesser known Greek philosophy, Stoicism — as you might have guessed by now — is what Health Like Me is all about today! Stoicism: What is it?Stoicism is the view that destructive emotions such as suffering are only harmful when they keep us from seeing the world as is, acting irrationally, and thinking and living well. It is not a goal of Stoicism to completely diminish all emotion, but rather a way of life that teaches us and keeps us from fighting against life's inevitably harsh times, and the emotions that come with it. And by doing so, we keep our freedom to make our own choices. "The Stoics saw gratitude as a kind of medicine (and) that saying 'Thank You' for every experience was the key to mental health." Embrace All EmotionsKnow that having and being able to recognize emotions is part of what makes us human! Suppressing our emotions will only make them worse. Even the tough ones to understand we should embrace because we only build on our own character when we do. We are also able to build an inner calm when we practice Stoicism. Healthy Application
Connect to BiggerConnecting to something bigger than oneself is another aspect of the Stoics. You practice Stoicism so that the worries and anxieties of daily life seem to fall away! The Stoics saw gratitude as a kind of medicine (and) saying 'thank you' for every experience was the key to mental health.
Find something bigger than yourself — whether it is within nature an ideal — and get in touch with it every single day! One thing that I have never truly been able to understand is how people can go from relationship to relationship, back-to-back. Do they take any time at all to recover or grieve? What is the tie frame taken to process what went wrong and how things can be changed going into the next one? Also, what about the amount of time you spent devoted to learning and being with another person? I'm not saying your relationship should drain you. On the contrary, the best relationships gives you time and space away from your partner while still thriving! Which is why if your relationship comes to an end, you are still standing strong on both feet with your self still in tact. So, the whole jumping from relationship to relationship never made sense because you aren't giving yourself time to discover who you are alone. Also, you're depriving yourself of having a Singleversary! No need to go into detail about what the word Singleversary means. You get it. So, despite our society's negative connotation with singledom (no matter what the articles say), throwing on your party hat and blasting that happily single playlist you've been steadily putting together is quite possibly the best thing you can experience! Now gather around while Health Like Me dives into the joys and necessity of celebrating your singleversary! Yay!
Celebrating your singleversary means self-reflection. Finding out who you are at different stages of your life is the ultimate goal!
How to Properly Celebrate itStarting a new book, taking an ACV bath, picking up a new hobby, working out, traveling alone.... the list could go on and on! Embracing being single is a right of passage that needs to be a right of passage we all need to make time for, no matter what our sex is! You might find a hidden talent or revisit something you may have forgotten you once loved. And those are spectacular finds indeed!
Don't limit yourself whilst celebrating. Do it all! You will be so surprised at what you discover within yourself and you will be so much more open and adamant to maintaining your autonomy once you find yourself in a mature relationship. |
